Development Process

A seven-stage framework, applied without shortcuts.

Selected opportunities progress through defined review stages covering initial screening, legal and rights review, technical validation, commercial framing, partner readiness and transaction or development preparation. Progression depends on the evidence, risks and requirements identified at each stage.

01
Intake

Opportunity received and conflict/confidentiality screened.

Initial information is received and reviewed to understand the source, contact, nature of the opportunity and authority to disclose information before further assessment begins.

Strategic fit and initial risk review.

The opportunity is screened for strategic fit, commodity, broad location, rightsholder identity, available information and potential fatal flaws before more detailed work is considered.

Ownership, licence and authority examined.

Available rights, ownership, licence and authority documentation is reviewed through an appropriate legal and counterparty verification process, with gaps and further requirements identified.

Desktop and/or field work coordinated.

Available geological and technical information is reviewed and, where appropriate, further work is scoped through qualified specialists. Findings, data limitations and additional technical requirements are documented.

Development route and commercial context considered.

Selected opportunities are considered in relation to development requirements, infrastructure, capital needs, market routes and key commercial assumptions appropriate to their stage.

Opportunity prepared for controlled counterparty engagement.

Appropriate documentation, disclosure controls, confidentiality arrangements and potential partnership roles are prepared before targeted engagement with suitable counterparties.

Formal agreements, financing and execution preparation.

Where an opportunity progresses, project-specific agreements, responsibilities, decision rights, funding requirements and implementation arrangements are prepared and documented.

Legal & Technical Review

Available project information and documentation reviewed as opportunities progress.

Technical Validation

Appropriate desktop or field work may be coordinated through qualified specialists according to project requirements.

Commercial & Partnership Preparation

Selected opportunities progressively framed for appropriate development and partnership pathways.

Decision Gates

Every stage can end the programme.

Progression is not automatic. At each stage, available evidence, identified risks, documentation gaps and next-step requirements are considered before an opportunity advances. An opportunity may be paused, returned for further work or discontinued where the requirements for progression are not met.
